They own the Broncos' first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft which comes in at No. 5 overall, as Denver endured a disastrous season under the watch of one-and-done coach Nathaniel Hackett. There are numerous options for the team, from upgrading its pa s rush to selecting an eventual succe sor to Smith. Below is a breakdown of the best and most realistic combinations that Seattle can pursue with its pair of first-round selections. (Getty Images) 1. DE Will Anderson and WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba The Seahawks will be positioned to land one of the top two defensive players in the draft with the No. 5 pick barring a surprise. It is expected that the Panthers, Texans and Colts will all select quarterbacks ahead of Seattle, so only the team's divisional rival Arizona is a threat to take Anderson. That said, the Cardinals may consider trading the No. 3 overall pick, and the Raiders and Titans are among those that could move up to get it. Both teams would likely do so for a quarterback, so it's po sible that all four quarterbacks will go with the first four picks. The Seahawks would love that, as it would guarantee them a shot at Anderson. The Alabama product racked up 34.5 sacks during his three years with the Crimson Tide and is a well-rounded, polished pa s rusher who will have 10-sack potential at the next level. Seattle has long needed a true, top-tier pa s rusher, so Anderson could help them replicate the impactful pa s rush they got from Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril during their "Legion of Boom" heyday. Those stemmed from his involvement in a Jan. 15 crash that killed a UGA teammate and recruiting staffer and left two others injured. To boot, Carter had a dreadful pro day workout, so that scared some away from him. Still, teams have plenty of time before the draft to vet their concerns, so the Seahawks who have given players second chances before could ultimately become comfortable enough with Carter to select him as a three-down playmaker for their line. The Seahawks could continue to addre s the trenches with their second pick, whether it's by targeting a defensive end or an offensive lineman. He is a very good athlete with a 6-3 frame and he was a dynamic weapon at TCU. He could be a great long-term replacement for Lockett and would give the Seahawks a couple of mismatch threats at receiver when paired with Metcalf. BENDER: 4. QB Anthony Richardson andEDGE Lukas Van Ne s The Seahawks re-signed Geno Smith to a three-year deal after he put together a strong 2022 season replacing Ru sell Wilson, but the team isn't nece sarily married to him long-term. As such, they could consider drafting a quarterback if one they liked fell to them. Richardson seems like the player that would most appeal to the Seahawks bra s. As mentioned, Carroll and Schneider have often taken big swings on hyper-athletic first-round prospects, and Richardson would fit that mold. Furthermore, the Seahawks wouldn't have to rush him into action and could let him learn behind Smith while remaining competitive in the NFC West. Richardson may not make it to the No. 5 pick, but if he does, the Seahawks will be facing an interesting choice regarding his availability. Keeping with the hyper-athletic theme, Van Ne s is a player who thrived at the NFL Combine and is nicknamed "Hercules." He also was productive at Iowa despite playing just two seasons there. He racked up 13 sacks in 26 games despite playing on a rotational basis. The Seahawks may see high-end potential in Van Ne s and either way, he fits the "swing-for-the-fences" edge rushers they have targeted early over the years. CB Christian Gonzalez and EDGE Will McDonald IV OK, let's say that Anderson comes off the board and the Seahawks pa s on Carter because of his character i sues. They drafted Tariq Woolen last year, and he turned into a top-tier starter as a rookie. McDonald logged back-to-back seasons with 10-plus sacks in 2020 and 2021 before moving inside to defensive tackle in 2022. The 6-4, 245-pound rusher was out of position there but still managed five sacks and put together some decent tape. The Seahawks will likely see an explosive playmaker who could thrive if moved back to the edge, so they could take him earlier than most expect.
